JS Bach: Concerto for Four Pianos

8pm - Philadelphia Cathedral  [tickets]  [directions]

Have you ever heard or seen 4 pianos being played on a concert stage? At the Opening Night of the 2008 Philadelphia Bach Festival you will hear and experience exactly that with Philadelphia's own PIANO4 ensemble accompanied by the Orchestra del Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza (Italy) all conducted by the Bach Festival's Musical Director Jonathan Sternberg. The PIANO4 ensemble will perform Bach's famous transcription of Vivaldi's Concerto for 4 pianos as well as Concertos for 2 and 3 pianos. The program opens with the much praised Italian pianist Roberto Plano playing the familiar D minor Concerto for 1 piano. To conclude this unusual keyboard event, the PIANO4 soloists will play a series of encores of extraordinary Bach transcriptions rarely heard in this area.
